Chi Kung

1- -What Qi Gong is?
Chi Kung or Qi Gong is a Chinese therapy that bellows to the same group as other spiritual therapies like Taichi or Reiki.
All of them come from eastern tradition and have the intention of channelling in a correct way the vital energy through the different meridians that go over our body.
2-       Translation of the term.
The literal translation of the term is: “work of the breathing”.  Why? Because this method insists in the idea of our breath should be conscious and it must accompany each one of our movements and thoughts.
3-      How can we practise it?
To have a correct state of health we must have the ability of control our own mind and body. Furthermore, it’s very important the equilibrium between them. To do this we should practice meditation and take the control of our breath.
We have to synchronize the three vital processes of humans that are: BODY, MIND and BREATH. How? To do it, we must take the control of our bodies à  Relax.
We have to relax, in this order, the mind, the breath and the body to make the energy flows. The following step is regularising the breathing until we get how to do it of constant and calm form.  In addition, this practice has a typical and own vocabulary which represents the eight ways of breathing to achieve our objective. These are some of that we offer to you:
Calm, soft, deep, long, continuous, uniform, slow and delicate.
The last step is the control of the mind or heart. This level is intrinsic to the two other previous stages. So, if we get relax our bodies and our respiration in a succeed way, our mind and our heart will be in peace together.
Finally, the practice of this healthy therapy might be realized in a static way or in movement. The really important thing in both cases is that our body must be well supported. In the second case, some teachers of this practice advise to imagine that we are trees anchored to the floor with roots.
Now we would like you to see this video and try to practice this interesting therapy:

  1. Thank you for your contribution. Sometimes, when we have stress periods, we forget that, through breathing, we can easily return to calm. This kind of videos are very useful.

  2. I agree with Edu... Your post is very interesting. All people should practice more activities like this to be more relaxed.

  3. I think that those activities are very interesting, we can do it with the children in class (Perhaps it’s more easier to do it with primary children than with pre-school children) to help them to be relax after the playtime for example or after physical education if they have to do other activity that is calmer.

In my opinion as teachers we have to know many ways to calm children in class, and activities like this can be a great way to achieve it.

  4. I am really interested in this kind of therapy. In my opinion they are so good for ourselves. To be in peace with the others it is essential be in peace with ourselves and this therapy is really good to find our own peace.
Perhaps the world could be better if we can control our mind and our body.
Thank your for your post, it is really interesting.

  5. I totally agree with Nerea. If people were relaxed and in peace with themselves world would be a much better place. There are a lot of therapies that work with the ability of breathing well, and we should stop and ask ourselves "why". Maybe if we were conscious about our own bodies, minds and surroundings, we could improve our life in so many senses.
Thank you Sara and Nela for bringing us the chance of knowing one good method to improve our lifes and the ones of those who we will be teaching!

  6. Great post, Sara and Nela! And the video is wonderful, relaxing even without doing anything at all, just watching him hahaha.
Being serious, I find this entry very interesting. The control of the breathing is something really important which can help us in the most stressful situations, being anxiety a good example of it. To take the control of our bodies can be difficult, but the results are amazing.

  8. Thanks, Sara and Nela, this is interesting and the video is very illustrative! One question that arises for me is whether we would actually introduce any such exercises in schools with the name “Chi Kung” or whether we might perhaps just call it something like “Conscious movement” or “Conscious bodywork.” I say this because sometimes things which remind people of religion or spirituality generate resistance (for example, from parents). What do you think?
